GRAND CASINO HOTEL Grand Casino Hotel was developed on waterfront property along U.S. Highway 90 at a cost of $27 million in 1995, and the hotel was totally destroyed by hurricane Katrina in 2005. In its heyday, the 12-story, 495-room luxury facility encompassed 350,000 SF and featured an elevated entry drive that delivered patrons to a second level porte-cochere that opened into the main entry lobby. A 260-seat restaurant and lounge was located adjacent to the entry lobby which overlooked the Gulf of Mexico. The entry level also included an enclosed retail arcade that was directly connected to an enclosed walkway that spanned U.S. 90 and provided access to a six-level parking structure. The third floor of the hotel consisted of convention and meeting spaces totalling 18,000 SF, which included a 7,800 SF ballroom. Fourth floor features included 2,156 SF health club with exercise area and locker rooms, exterior swimming pool and deck, and an additional 52 hotel rooms. Two "Presidential Suites" with a living room, two separate bedrooms and an oversized luxury bathroom with a private whirlpool were located on the top floor of the guestroom tower. The project was contracted with and produced by the predecessor entity of Dean/Dale and Dean Architects, P.A. |
