NORTHSHORE & OAKDALE ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS DD/A provided full A/E services for a 61,300 SF prototype elementary school designed to serve the needs of 625 students in grades K thru 5. The innovative design features wings that radiate off of a dramatic rotunda, through which corridors circulate to serve K-1 classrooms and upper grades while still providing desired separation. The design also features highly flexible learning spaces with large classrooms and centrally located community spaces. All classrooms are equipped with 6 computer stations, and one of the two art and science rooms is equipped as a computer center. To date the prototype has been built at two locations in Rankin County, at Northshore and Oakdale, with both schools opening in the fall of 2004. Construction costs for Northshore school totalled $6.4 million, while Oakdale costs ran $7.6 million due to challenging site conditions. |
