SECURITY UPGRADE/TRAVIS COUNTY JAIL
Austin, Texas

Two weeks before this 276-inmate jail facility was to open, a number of security and life safety deficiencies were identified by an expert from the Federal Bureau of Prisons. The firm was contracted to work with the Board of Commissioners of Travis County to identify and document all deficiencies and provide necessary drawings and documentation to upgrade the new facility before it could be opened.

Staff personnel were required to provide expert testimony on behalf of the Board of Commissioners to substantiate original inadequacies and justify the upgrading requested by the Board.

Costs for the upgrade to the facility totalled $7.386 million.

This project was contracted with and produced by the
predecessor entity of Dean/Dale and Dean Architects, P.A. For information regarding involvement by current DD/A staff on this project, refer to the Resumes section.
